Reception
Welcome to Reception!
Our reception children are our youngest children at Lons Infant School. We continue to build on the children's prior learning from home, nursery and other childcare settings. Our approach is very child led, the children have many opportunities throughout the day to explore the indoor and outdoor environment, choosing and selecting their own resources and play opportunities. During the day every child will work with adults during 'job time' to develop their knowledge further in all areas of the curriculum. We also have daily whole class phonics and mathematics sessions every morning. On Monday we have PE with our specialist sports coach Mr Jeffrey. On Wednesday we have Tai Chi with our qualified Tai Chi instructor Paul. Fridays are a real favourite in reception, as we enjoy 'Forest Friday'. We are really lucky at Lons to have our very own woodland and we really enjoy taking part in lots of forest fun each week.
What will we learn during our time in EYFS?
Phonics in Reception
At Lons we use Little Wandle to learn our phonics. We have a daily phonics session where we learn our sounds for reading and writing. This is a really crucial time of the day and such an exciting time as your child begins to read and write for the first time. In addition to daily whole class phonics sessions, your child will also read in a group three times a week. They will bring this book home on Friday to show you their reading skills. Please look below for more information on how you can support your child with their reading journey.
